BROUGHTON Gifford Pre-School last week held the grand opening of their brand new home in the grounds of St. Mary’s Primary School.
The pre-school, originally hosted at Broughton Gifford Village Hall, now has its own dedicated building which will allow it to stay open full-time. The building has been named Rosi’s Lodge in memory of Ros Tyre, a playleader who died recently.
Chair of the pre-school committee Anne Fielden said, “We are delighted to officially open Rosi’s Lodge, and the committee would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible.
“Thank you to all those who have volunteered, fundraised, and donated money to the project. We’d especially like to thank project manager Will Anstey, the pre-school staff, my co-chair Val Wilkinson, Community First, the Hills Group, and our childcare officers Jo Giles and Nicola Harris.”
The pre-school was tasked with raising £60,000 to complete the project; a target they met with money raised in the village and grants and donations from Wiltshire Council and the Hills Group’s Landfill Tax Community fund, by way of Community First.
The new building, first put into use last term, was officially opened by former MP Duncan Hames.
Duncan Hames said, “I visited the pre-school a couple of years ago when discussions began about having this building created. A similar project had been completed in Holt, and we hoped its success could be replicated here.
“When the project began I had no idea that it would be possible to create something as wonderful as this. The building is homely inside and has been built with the character of the rural scenery in mind. It’s absolutely fantastic.”
Rosi’s Lodge is a wooden building with two separate learning spaces, a staff room, and an enclosed outdoor play area. The pre-school can care for 20 children at a time, and opens at 8am every weekday. The building can also be hired for meetings.
