MELKSHAMCarnival Committee has reinforced their warning about balloon sellers and any other street traders.

As published in the previous issue of Melksham Independent News, the committee is asking people not to engage with anybody selling things on the street – none, except carnival programme sellers, are authorised by the committee.

A carnival spokesperson said of the people pictured above, “These individuals joined the procession without our prior knowledge or agreement and sold balloons by giving them to children and then asking the parents for money.

“They are nothing to do with carnival and sneak into the procession while we are setting up the entries in the Cooper-Avon car park.

“They also went to the park last year and had photos taken with children and charged parents for the privilege! They do not give anything to us or to the town, and they make a small fortune from you.

“Some of the merchandise sold by unauthorised traders is potentially dangerous. If you see anyone selling balloons or anything apart from our official programmes then please do not give them your money. We want everyone to have a happy and safe Carnival.”

The carnival committee has made it clear that only programme sellers are part of the official procession.
