10th Anniversary Memorial Rock & Roll Dance

A SIXTIES themed ‘Rock & Roll’ night is being organised in memory of Melksham woman Carol Haynes, who passed away in 2005 of cancer, aged 58.

The event is being organised by Carol’s brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Sandra Newbury, to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care as Carol was a patient there for almost ten years.

Alan said, “Despite being declared in remission, Carol finally succumbed to cancer in December 2005. She was no stranger to loss herself having lost two of her four children at very early stages. Yet, for all her own worries, she always found the time to be the best wife, mother, sister and friend.

“Even though Carol knew what she was facing, she was making plans to thank the staff of Dorothy House Hospice for their fantastic support, not only for herself but for visiting family.

“The first dance I organised in memory of Carol was a huge success. It brought together family and friends to celebrate her life and raise awareness of the wonderful support given by the Dorothy House staff. Since then, the cost to run the Hospice every day has drastically increased from £2,000 to £9,000. Even though my fundraising over the years has raised almost £12,000, that is merely a drop in the ocean.”

The dance will take place on Saturday 26th September at Spencer’s Club, Melksham. There will be live music from Carol’s husband’s band, Route 66, who are sure to get your hips swinging!

There will also be a raffle and auction on the night with 1st prize being £250. Tickets are £10, which includes a buffet and a lucky ticket draw giving you the chance to win £100.

“Please help me make this occasion special. I kindly seek items that can be raffled and/or auctioned on the evening.”
