WHITLEY residents were recently given the chance to view plans for the new and improved Pear Tree Inn which is expected to be open by October.
Punch Taverns, alongside new landlords Adrian Jenkins and Jackie Cosens, held a public viewing at the Whitley Reading Rooms last week.
Local people were invited to see what the new owners have in store for the village pub.
Adrian and Jackie, formerly of the Three Daggers in Edington, will be taking over the premises in September with 25 years’ experience in the industry.
Adrian said, “We’re really looking forward to starting at the Pear Tree, and the plans have had a great response from the local people – even those who were wary about the changes to start with.
“It’s important that people know we are committed to making this a real community asset and giving the villagers back what they lost in a great local pub.
“Jackie and I have been running pubs for 25 years and really like the local area. We’re hoping that our contacts and experience will help this succeed; we, along with the local people, are getting excited!”
Handover of the Pear Tree will take place in late September, and it is expected to be open to the public at the beginning of October.
Punch Taverns have applied for permission to make significant changes to the Grade II listed pub’s interior. The application shows an intention to remove the existing bar and the lowered ceiling in the pub’s sun room, as well as reopening doorways in partition walls.
