With just over a week to go until The Big Walk returns for a second year, people are being asked to get their walking boots on to help raise money for two worthy causes.
The Big Walk has been organised by cllr Jon Hubbard and supported by Wiltshire Council, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, YourWebSolution, The Co-operative Food and Waitrose.
It takes place on Saturday 12th September and this year people have the choice of two walks to take part in. One is starting in central Bath and the other in Devizes with both finishing at County Hall, Trowbridge.
The Big Walk is to raise money for two local charities – Hope for Tomorrow and Young Melksham. Hope for Tomorrow is a Wiltshire-based charity dedicated to bringing cancer treatment closer to patients’ homes. Its mobile chemotherapy units effectively reduce the long distances of travel and waiting times for treatment that patients often endure.
Young Melksham is a local charity working with children, young people and their families in the Melksham Community Area. The trustees are all volunteers made up from across the community including some in the teaching profession and others who have different skills and talents they use to support their work.
Cllr Jon Hubbard said, “My aim for this year’s Big Walk was to make it bigger and better than last year and based on the great support we’ve had I can confidently say it’s going to be. Wiltshire is a beautiful county so this an opportunity for people to take part in a truly scenic walk while raising lots of money for two charities that do so much good work in our communities.
“If people can’t make the walk then I’d be really grateful if they can donate what they can and support our walkers with their efforts. My walking boots have just about recovered from last year and I’m raring to go again.”
