Drama around a garden in Holt

Holt Dramatic Society are transforming Holt Village Hall into a rambling country garden in summer in order to bring you a very funny and uplifting performance of ‘Round and Round the Garden’ by Alan Ayckbourn from 12th to 14th November

Directed by Kate Palmer, this play is a typical Ayckbourn study of characters.  Annie, spinster sister to Reg and Ruth, looks after her aged mother in the family home.  She and Norman, Ruth’s husband, have planned an illicit weekend away following a moment of passion at a previous family gathering.  She has arranged for Reg and his wife Sarah to come and look after mother for the weekend.

Tom, the local vet, is a frequent visitor to the house and all the family suspect he has feelings for Annie but is too shy and awkward to express his feelings.

When Norman turns up early at the house, his plans for a weekend away with Annie are interrupted with the arrival of Reg and Sarah and following supper, when he has too much to drink, emotions start to run high and feelings are misunderstood.  As a result Sarah phones Norman’s wife, Ruth, and when she arrives things get even more complicated and out of hand. The conversations and misunderstandings lead to hilarious confusion.  ‘Round and Round the Garden’ is Alan Ayckbourn at his best.

Tickets are available from the Holt Superstore, next to the village hall, at £9 (£7 concessions) and online at www.holtdrama.org.uk   Doors open at 7.00pm.
