REFURBISHMENT of the skate park in Melksham will begin straight away, says Wiltshire Council.
A number of young people attended the Melksham Area Board meeting last month to hear the news that a new skate park would be delivered as part of the plans for the Health and Wellbeing Centre.
Wiltshire Council acknowledge that the current skate park is in need of refurbishment, so concrete ramps will be installed which should last for 40 years.
Those who came along showed their appreciation for the plans and explained how important the park is and how well used it is.
Deputy leader of Wiltshire Council, John Thomson said, “The skate park is a major facility in the town and we want to make sure we are seen to be doing something for the youth in the town.
“It will remains on the existing site, everyone seems to be happy with where it is.
“As far as I’m concerned, work will start straight away. It’s a really good investment for Melksham.”
Since the meeting, a Wiltshire Council spokesperson said, “The Melksham skate park is extremely popular and we are pleased that as part of the provision of the new health and wellbeing campus we will provide a refurbished facility, which we know will be well-used in the community. Work to provide the new skate park is under way and as this is a refurbishment of the existing skate park, the process will be far shorter than building a new facility.”
