Dancing with flowers at Flower Arrangement Society

The chairman  – Caroline Christopher welcomed everyone to the meeting.

She thanked Christine Oughton for tutoring the practice class using flowing aspidistra leaves that were pinned using decorative pins and tulips.  She then introduced Caroline Beale the chief executive of Wiltshire Mind who gave a resume of the work that they carried out on a voluntary basis in the area.  This charity has been chosen as the club’s charity of the year and fundraising would go towards this.

The demonstrator for the afternoon was Jackie Watson who came from near London with her theme ‘Dancing with Flowers’.  This was the first time Jackie had visited Melksham club and she did not disappoint  with her lovely interpretations of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’; old English May-Pole dancing; and dramatic ‘Riverdance’, moving on to a ‘Limbo’ using orchids and black cordaline leaves in a parallel arrangement – we then went square-dancing in a cube! And her finale was the ballet – a beautiful arrangement of pink and white and silvered ferns over a ‘tutu’ of chiffon.

Rosalyn Clarke gave the vote of thanks for a delightful afternoon.

The next club meeting will be on Tuesday 19th  April at 2.00pm when national demonstrator – Bob Harris will present his @memories are Made of This’ demonstration.

Held at Spencer’s Sports & Social Club, Beanacre Road, Melksham (SN12 8AG) – for more details contact Rosalyn Clarke 01225 705007 or email rosalyn01@btinternet.com
