A MELKSHAM opticians is getting behind a local campaign to support five-year-old Liam Collins, who suffers from a rare condition.
The team at Specsavers on Bank Street has pledged to donate £1 from every sight test – full price £21.95 – carried out throughout April to help Liam’s family achieve their £10,000 goal to create a more suitable environment for their son. Liam’s friends and family have already raised more than £5,000 towards building a bedroom and wet room on the ground floor of his family home.
Among several conditions which affect his development, Liam suffers from X-linked ectodermal dysplasia which reduces his ability to sweat, making it difficult for his body to control its temperature.
Julie Burrage, Specsavers Melksham store manager said, “Liam and his family have been visiting the store for several years now, so when we heard about their campaign we were obviously keen to support them.
“The changes they hope to make to their home will make a huge difference to Liam’s wellbeing and make it much easier for them to care for him.
“Hopefully by donating £1 from every sight test throughout the month, we’ll be able to get Liam one step closer to having his own bedroom.”
