Melksham & District Flower Arrangement Society

Melksham Flower Arrangement Society’s Rosalyn Clarke reports, “Christine Oughton tutored the practice class which, although was tricky in manipulating wires to contain groups of roses, the overall result was very successful and pleasing to the eye.

“Chairman, Caroline Christopher, introduced Ann Anson, an area demonstrator from the Oxford area with her demonstration, ’Food for Thought’. She started by doing a green and white arrangement around a beautiful set of brass scales using garden foliage and flowers, this incorporated white Valerian, Alchamilla Mollis white chrysanths and  the beautiful ‘Duchess of Edinburgh clematis which was new to many members.

“This was followed by  a striking arrangement of red nut tree foliage, yellow Alstromeria, cream Hypericum berries and cream spray rose called Rambling Rector – this was set in an antique cheese cradle.

“Clashing oranges followed set among a pewter platter and jugs, using orange roses and two tone orange gerberas and a variegated Pittisporum.  This was followed by a red rose posy arrangement in a silver epergne set atop of a glass and silver tray.

“Ann’s final arrangement was a traditional triangle of beautiful pink foxgloves, catmint and Gertrude Jeykell and Constance Spry pink rose in a beautiful crystal vase.

“Celia Young gave a much appreciated vote of thanks for a very pleasant afternoon.

“If you have found a bouquet just ‘lying around’ Melksham and its villages, this is with the compliments of Melksham Flower Club who have joined in again with the International Lonely Bouquet day when it is hoped that people who do not normally receive flowers will enjoy having a little floral gift by the club’s members.

“Remember you do not have to be lonely, come along to our club meeting and enjoy an afternoon of flowers and friendship.”

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th July at 2pm at Spencers Sports and Social Club, Beanacre Road Melksham. Tel Rosalyn 705007 for more details.
