Local makers celebrated in Parliament

Producers from the Melksham area were celebrated in Parliament last week as local MP Michelle Donelan invited them to the Houses of Parliament to help promote the wide range of fantastic products being manufactured in the area.

Among those in attendance were Whitley’s Wiltshire Chilli Farm, made famous when the new Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson visited them in 2014; and cream and cheese producers Coombe Castle Dairies, based near Asda in Melksham.

Other producers from Wiltshire were also in attendance including Bradford on Avon’s award winning Eat Square Pies and Corsham based artisan chocolatiers Lick the Spoon.

Dozens of Members of the House of Commons and Lords visited the stands to taste and trial the products on offer, many of them placing orders for additional products.

Event organiser Michelle Donelan said, “From cheese to candles, teas to chillies, chocolate to pies and even bikes, the day was about highlighting the broad range of world-class products that are made in the local area and encouraging our businesses to speak with other MPs about what Wiltshire has to offer. I know that some of the businesses have made good business connections which will help them grow.”
