Think pink! Curves waives joining fee to raise money for charity

CURVES in Avonside,  Melksham, has an array of events planned for October – all to raise money to help fight breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research. Curves, the fitness centre for just women has a jam-packed schedule of events throughout October including ladies’ days on 3rd and 14th October, and a bring and buy sale on 10th October.

Manager Sue Armstrong said, “We’ve got so much going on! On ladies’ day, Pink Box Boutique will have a stall selling a range including bags, scarfs, skin care and artisan food. And why not try the latest fashion trend, Jamberry Nail Wraps – the thin vinyl sheets that are pressure and heat activated. The raffle winners will also be announced on Ladies’ Day. There will also be refreshments available.

“The coffee morning falls on the official Breast Cancer Care Wear It Pink Day, so come along wearing all things pink! We’d love to have donations of cakes as well. Whatever is sold will go straight to the charity.

“There will also be a butterfly hunt from 10th-22nd October so watch out for that. I will also be doing a sponsored body basics morning. The class normally takes half an hour but i’ll be doing it for three hours. If anyone would like to sponsor me, please get in touch.

“We’re also planning a function night but details are yet to be confirmed.

“We would love to see all our members there but it’s also a great opportunity for non-members to come down and have a look at what we are all about. It’s the perfect time to come down, meet the staff and customers,  have fun and raise money for a worthy cause.”

Curves is also waiving all service fees in October when customers sign up. In return, a donation of £20 is recommended to Breast Cancer Care.

Sue said, “We get involved in breast cancer awareness month every year and we try to do our best to raise awareness and much-needed funds.

“The ‘no service fee’ means that it is a great opportunity for people to get into exercising and donate to a fantastic cause. Exercising will also improve your fitness and help in the prevention of many diseases.”

Last year Curves set themselves a target of £1,000 and smashed it, raising just over £1,700 for Breast Cancer Care. Again this year the target is over £1,000.
