Frome were hosts to Melksham on a gusty day at the Gypsy Lane pitch.
The visitors were the first to score with a timely intercepted pass by Ben Brown, winning the race for the line with the Frome backs in hot pursuit.
Both sides alternated in attack in a competitive game of rugby with pressure on the visitors’ line finally telling, the home team going over in the corner. The pressure began to ramp up when Melksham conceded a penalty to put the home team up 8-5.
Following a rigorous halftime talk from both sides, Melksham rode their luck with debut winger Jake Spooner collecting a stray ball scoring with a run down the right wing. Fly half Callum Hurn added the extras.
Further pressure from the visitors resulted in a penalty, again slotted by Hurn to ease away from the home team. Frome weren’t done yet and rallied with seven points to level it with 10 minutes to play.
Melksham kept their composure, pressurising the home team in their own half and racking up two more penalties, both slotted by Hurn, to seal the game.
