AFTER winning Melksham’s Person of the Year award last year, Anne Cranham was invited to the Houses of Parliament by MP Michelle Donelan.
Anne travelled up to London with a group of 50 scouts, explore scouts and leaders from 1st Broughton Gifford & Holt Scout Group on Saturday 21st January.
Anne said, “Shortly after we arrived and had a photograph in Black Rod’s Garden, we made our way along to the Cromwell Green entrance. After a briefing on security by a policeman and a screening process, we went into Westminster Hall where we were met by Michelle and three more of her team to help with our tour around the Houses of Parliament.
“The tour took about three hours and we had lunch in The Jubilee Cafe. Michelle and her team did a wonderful job and certainly enthused everyone with lots of questions. Many spoke about actually seeing places they have only seen on the television. The building itself was certainly a talking point.
“We finished off with a rousing ‘bravo’ for Michelle and her team which reverberated around the large hall.
“We left the Houses of Parliament for a walk around the locality with all food intensions of visiting Trafalgar Square. We made it across Westminster Bridge, along the South Bank, back across Hungerford Bridge only to find the road to Trafalgar Square was closed due to a demonstration. We did a detour and came down along Whitehall back to Black Rod’s Garden to get back on our coach.
“My sincere thanks goes to Michelle and her team for making it such a great day for members of 1st Broughton Gifford & Holt Scout Group. It certainly was a day to remember.”
