Melksham joins The Great British Spring Clean

LITTER picking heroes in Melksham turned out in force earlier this month to join the rest of the country for The Great British Spring Clean.

Across the county, 142 events were held with more than 3,200 volunteers of all ages taking part and 1,882 bags of rubbish collected.

Melksham led the way with litter picking events taking place in the town and surrounding villages organised by community groups and schools.

Rhys Schell, Melksham community engagement manager said, “It was fantastic to have so many people involved in The Great British Spring Clean from across the Melksham community.

Over 350 people turned out at 14 events, collecting an incredible 368 bags of litter.

“A huge thank you to all the schools, groups and volunteers who gave up their time to tidy up our local community.”

Miriam Zaccarelli who organises Melksham’s Tidy Town events said, “Despite the rain, so many people gave their time to tidy the town. People in Melksham are proud of their town and The Great British Spring Clean is another example of the  wonderful community spirit we have in Melksham and dedication of the people who live here.”
