BRAG cross their green fingers for South West in Bloom win for fourth year running

BOWERHILL Residents Action Group (BRAG) are aiming for their fourth level 5 ‘Outstanding’ award in a row for their picnic area in the South West in Bloom competition.

The volunteer group’s picnic area has competed in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category since 2014 and has so far won a hat trick of level 5 ‘Outstanding’ awards.

Hopefully this year it will be number four,” said chairman of BRAG, Mike Mills.

The picnic area located next to the Kennet and Avon canal has been looked after by BRAG since it opened in June 2015.

In April, the team was upset to find that vandals  had damaged the area destroying flowers, leaving litter everywhere and breaking two of the three picnic bench seats.

The volunteers soon had the picnic area looking back to its best and have since spent many hours preparing for the visit from the South West in Bloom judges who came in mid-July.

The BRAG team has an anxious wait until October to find out if they have been successful.
