An Hour with The Orient Express

COME and join the Orient Express, a Turkish traditional folk group, at the URC Church in Holt on Sunday 19th November.

Orient Express play a mixture of Turkish traditional folk and modern day songs, many of which their vocalist, Sevilay Ataseven Turlington, learnt when she was growing up in Turkey.

Turkish music has many flavours and moods, and music from different regions has its own character. Influences are also absorbed from its neighbouring countries. The band’s music includes, amongst others, songs from the Balkan borders and the Black Sea area of Turkey, as well as the occasional Arabic song.

Other band members are Richard Bousfield, Helen Bousfield and Jonathan Mears who all bring their own influences to the musical melting pot.

Instruments featured are kemanche, bouzouki, guitar, tarhu, Cretan lute, flute, concertina, frame drum and fretless bass guitar.

The event is from 3pm-4pm and admission price is £4 plus a donation for tea, coffee and cake afterwards.
