Sat. 28th October – Toolstation Premier Div. Shepton Mallet 0 Melksham Town 2 Sat. 4th November – Toolstation Premier Div. Melksham Town 1 Clevedon Town 0

MELKSHAM Town have continued their run of wins, having yet to concede a goal in the last five games.

Vice Captain Mike Perrott has declared that Town are back in the running for promotion, currently sitting in third place in the league after two convincing wins against Shepton Mallet and Clevedon Town.

Mike said, “It’s been a good few weeks, it’s all falling back into place. Team morale is good, everyone is always much happier when we are winning.

“It’s been a great run with the Clevedon game being our fifth clean sheet in a row. We are now back in the mix in the run up to Christmas.”

Forced to sit the match out due to a suspension for being sent off in the game against Briport, Mike cheered his team mates on to victory away to Shepton Mallet. “The lads did really well. We normally struggle against Shepton, but the team looked really solid and took advantage of any chances that were created. Gary Higdon scored again, he’s definitely one of our most reliable goal scorers. But one player to mention is Joe Stradling who has been one of our best players this month. Stradling also scored for us in this match, so it’s great to see other players coming through.

“Honestly though, goal scoring has never been a problem for us. So it’s good that we are tightening up at the back and stopping those goals coming in.”

Up next for Town was another league game against Clevedon Town at home. “Against Clevedon it was another good solid team performance,” added Mike. “Clevedon are a team with a big budget and some big players, but they never seemed to trouble us, apart from one attempt that was saved. We created a lot of good chances and by halftime it realistically could’ve been 2 or 3 – nil.

“For me it was great to be back on the pitch after my suspension.

“Coming up we have a cup game this weekend against Wantage, who I don’t know much about. But if we continue like we are we should hopefully get a good result.”
