A busy November for Melksham WI

The Melksham WI has been very busy this month. On the first Saturday of November – 14 of us enjoyed a lunch out in Shaw.

Then last Saturday (11th November) we held a coffee morning at The United Reform Church rooms as part of World Kindness Day, when we offered a free hot drink and a slice of homemade cake. There was also the opportunity to obtain cards, cookery books, plants and craft items – all for a donation. The morning had a real buzz and it was a lot of fun.  Our visitors were very generous with their donations and with a small top up from Melksham WI, we have been able to send £50 each, to our two chosen charities – The Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the Melksham Christmas Lights. So a big thank you to everyone that made the morning such a success and to all those that made a donation.

At our monthly meeting this month we welcomed Dilys Fisher who gave us a talk and demonstration on enamelling. Dilys led us in a very enjoyable evening. She gave us background information on enamelling and explained a variety of methods that she uses.  She set up a workshop for WI members and visitors to have a go under her instruction. Many went home with a sample of their work, several with thoughts of looking into enamelling further as a new challenge.

We are now gearing up to a busy build up to Christmas: on Sat 2nd December we are running a coach trip to the Christmas Market in Winchester. There are also a few trips planned to the Theatre Royal in Bath, as well as local theatre and music venues. Wednesday 6th December our poetry group will meet in the afternoon; then our Craft Group meets in the evening – when we will be making a ‘coaster’ to brighten up our Christmas tables. Our regular monthly meeting is on Wednesday 20th December which is our Christmas Party with a singalong – should be a fun night.

We run a varied programme of speakers and events throughout the year, so if you would like to join us, visitors are always welcome, your first visit is free. We meet at the Riverside Club, Bath Road, Melksham on the third Wednesday of the month from 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm). Further information can be found on our website at www.melkshamwi.weebly .com
