Compliments have been pouring in for the Melksham Christmas Lights which have been hailed as the ‘Best in the West’, despite the problems caused by the Market Place redevelopment.
After the grand switch-on on Saturday 2nd December, people from far and wide have come to the town to see the lights and have been praising the display and Christmas lights team.
Mayor of Melksham, cllr Adrienne Westbrook led the tributes saying, “I think they are the best in the west, absolutely. People come from all around to visit. I’ve been speaking to various residents in Melksham and they all love that they can drive through the town and look at the beautiful lights.
“The volunteer team that we have in Melksham is something that all towns in Wiltshire would like to have. We are so lucky to have them. What a difference they make to Christmas in Melksham!”
Elaine Gardiner said on Facebook, “Our town has the best lights in the area. We are very thankful to all of you for giving up your free time and giving us so much pleasure”
Keith and Avril Lye in a letter to Melksham News said, “We took a trip around the towns in the local area to see their Christmas lights including Corsham, Chippenham and Devizes. Devizes was good but nothing compared to Melksham’s, Melksham’s knocks the socks off the others and really are the best in the west!”
Graham Moon on Facebook said, “Once again even with short notice you have proved better than any other town in Wiltshire, congratulations to you all.”
Faron Scott on Facebook said, “Well done Melksham – best display in Wiltshire…. welcome to the Christmas countdown!!”
The lights were also featured in a recent issue of The Western Daily Press under the heading of ‘Readers capture the delights of the region’s magnificent sights’ where a photo by Tony Box from Melksham was used across the centre pages to show the Melksham lights in all their glory.
