THE family of a 10-year-old Melksham boy, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, is organising an unusual mountain climb fundraiser. They are planning for teams to race up Snowdon whilst carrying two dismantled tumble dryers – which must then be rebuilt to working order.
Stacey Knight, organiser of the Snowdon fundraiser said, “Tyler has been so brave and continues to make his family and friends so incredibly proud. We think that this wonderful little boy deserves something very special and we welcome everyone’s help.”
In August 2017, at just nine years old, Tyler began suffering from headaches and sickness, which were at first put down to migraine attacks. Unfortunately, further tests revealed a brain tumour known as Medulloblastoma.
Tyler was quickly transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where he underwent brain surgery which although successful, could not fully remove all the cancer cells.
Tyler has been undergoing six weeks of radio and chemotherapy to eliminate the spread of the remaining cancer. He has to be sedated every morning under general anaesthetic to be able to receive the treatment, as well as having blood transfusions.
Throughout an incredibly tough time, Tyler has remained strong for himself and his family, who have been by his side every step of the way.
Stacey Knight said, “Ten year old Tyler is currently undergoing radio and chemo-therapy and his mother has had to stop working in order to care for her son. Together they are facing the next six months of gruelling treatment.
“On Saturday 5th May this year, weather permitting, friends and colleagues of Tyler’s grandfather are organising a charity climb of Snowdon to raise much-needed funds for the family.
“They plan is to race teams up to the summit carrying two dismantled tumble dryers, which must then be rebuilt to working order.
“We are asking for help to promote this charity event and hope to turn publicity into money for his family.”
