Wiltshire Wonderers look to make history with third title

BRITISH Skittles men’s champions, the Wiltshire Wonders from Melksham, are looking to defend their title and take victory for the third time.

The team, based in Melksham, first made their mark on the British championships in 2011 when they were runners up.  Then in 2014 they won the trophy and again in 2017.

Captain, John Wiltshire said, “When we won last year, it was another great feeling, but now we are thinking that if we could win again, we’d equal the previous record of three victories.  So now the heat is on.”

The Wonders’ arch rivals are the Highwaymen from Worcester who have three titles under their belts and are keen to make their record even more unbeatable.

“Same team, same routine, same playing, same beer,” John continued.  ‘We want to equal that record.” The Wonders will begin their defence shortly in the regional league rounds and play offs now that entries have come to a close.

This year’s championship is expected to attract at least 150 teams who will be battling hard for a coveted place in the grand finals in September.  Only 64 teams will qualify to make the trip to Torquay in South Devon.
