Raffle prizes up for grabs at charity rugby match

Rugby fans will be delighted by the raffle prizes available at a charity match this weekend say the organisers of the event.

Marking a hundred years since the end of the First World War, former Melksham soldiers who have served in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan, will compete against a ‘veterans’ team from Melksham RFC.

The match, due to be held at the Oakfields stadium this Friday 9th November – in advance of the Remembrance Day weekend – will raise money for the Royal British Legion.

The event will be followed by a raffle featuring top prizes including a signed Bath Rugby shirt, together with shirts from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

The match kicks off at 7.30pm, with a bar, food and live music.

A spokesperson said, “We’ve been delighted by the response from the local community in support of the first ‘Veterans v Veterans’ rugby match.

“Aside from the sports shirts, we’ve also had lots of generous donations from Melksham businesses including several vouchers for local restaurants and diners.

“However, it’s not too late for other businesses to get involved and lend their support to such a worthy cause, raising much-needed funds for servicemen and women across the UK.”

The match will be followed by live entertainment from 9pm from local DJ Lee Heath and singer Simon Foster.
