Melksham Townswomen’s Guild – November meeting

Melksham Townswomen’s Guild held their monthly meeting on Friday 9th November at the United Church Rooms.

Ivy Dixon reports, “Our Chairman, Mrs Tricia Hoy dealt with the usual Guild business and advised members of activities planned for the  next few months. Mrs Hoy also reminded everyone that the Guild Christmas Lunch will take place on 14th December and will commence at  1.15pm.

“After a break for tea and biscuits,  we welcomed back  Dickon Povey, a popular speaker who once again entertained us all with tales about his interesting career choices starting with the RAF in the 1950s.  He was posted to Christmas Island in 1959 and from then on, was based just about  everywhere, including Cyprus, Duxford and Zambia to name but a few places!  As he is a keen photographer we were all fascinated by the wonderful pictures that he had taken of all his overseas postings during his time with the RAF and also his subsequent career overseas mostly in Africa  with IAL that saw him in Kuwait, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

“Melksham Townswomen’s Guild will meet after the Christmas break on 11th January at 2pm.  Visitors and new members are always welcome.  For further information please contact Mrs Tricia Hoy 01225 704805.”
