THE new Wiltshire councillor for the east of Melksham, Mike Sankey, has anti-social behaviour and the proposed new community hall for the area on his agenda.
Speaking at last week’s annual town council meeting, cllr Sankey – who was previously a town councillor – asked the new town council line-up to support efforts to combat anti-social behaviour in the east of Melksham and to deliver the area’s community hall “as soon as possible”.
He praised the recent increased police presence in the area, who have carried out night-time foot patrols of Cranesbill play area and Primrose Nature Reserve in response to reports of late night anti-social behaviour.
But he urged the town council that more needs to be done.
He said, “I would ask that the town council during future work on CCTV will recognise the need to introduce a scheme that covers the periphery of the town and beyond, possibly including Bowerhill and any new footpaths to the school.”
About the proposed east of Melksham community hall on land to the east of Spa Road, cllr Sankey said, “I would ask that members see that as a priority and do whatever they can to make sure that community hall is delivered as soon as possible.”
