Assembly Hall’s future in doubt?

Story posted on

MELKSHAM Town Council has responded to rumours that the Assembly Hall could close, explaining that discussions about its future have yet to take place.

Residents have raised concern with Melksham News that the town council is planning to either change the use of the Assembly Hall from an entertainment venue that hosts live events, to more of a “community hall for hire”; or close it permanently.

“I am livid,” said one frequent user of the Assembly Hall. “I’ve heard cllr Jon Hubbard question why the Assembly Hall should try and compete with venues in Bath. But the Assembly Hall is not competing with Bath – the Assembly Hall is at the heart of our community, we should not lose it!”

But the town council has denied that any decision has been made about the Assembly Hall.

Melksham Town Council’s clerk, Linda Roberts, told Melksham News, “The new council has not discussed the future of the Assembly Hall, so as far as it stands the Assembly Hall’s status has not changed.”
