A MUCH-LOVED Melksham shop is closing.
King Street Curios is closing its doors for the final time after 24 years in the town this week.
“Trade just hasn’t been the same since lockdown and with overheads going up, it’s time to call it a day,” said owner Lizzie Board.
“It’s the end of an era but I’m not retiring! I’ll be carrying on by going to antique fairs and selling online but, sadly, it’s time to say goodbye.
“I’ve had a fantastic time in Melksham and I’ll miss all my customers, but it’s more and more difficult for town centre shops these days.
“We specialise in curios, rather than antiques and have had so many unusual things come through the doors over the years. We’ve had prosthetic legs (in working order!) from the 1940s, a stuffed sheep dog, a giant ice cream cone, old medical instruments, pub signs, mannequins, vintage toys, dolls and teddies, old uniforms; a de-activated machine gun, even a Joanna Lumley lifesize cardboard cutout!”
King Street Curios is based in King Street and currently is selling off its stock before closing in the next few days.
