Local Indie band win a place in battle of the bands final

AN indie rock band from Melksham has won their heat in a local battle of the bands competition and will be performing in the final showdown on 28th April. 

The Sunnies – made up of Jarrett, Lucas, Dan and Joe, aged 14 to 17 years old – recently took part in the Take the Stage battle of the bands at the Neeld Community & Arts Centre in Chippenham, competing in the heats against two other bands: Nothing Rhymes with Orange and Kable.

There were four heats in all which were judged by audience votes; In the final in April, winners of each heat will perform and be judged by a panel of five music critics and music industry professionals.

Dan, who plays bass in The Sunnies said, “In our heat, we really thought we wouldn’t win because a lot of the crowd were fans of Nothing Rhymes with Orange but we must have won the crowd over because we ended up winning which was such a nice surprise. We are really excited to be going to the final.”

The Sunnies formed three years ago, with Dan joining the band in October last year. He said, “We usually practice weekly in Lucas’ garage. We would say our music is similar to early Arctic Monkeys and The 1975. We play indie rock. If we win the battle of the bands, we are hoping to get some time in a recording studio to record our album.”

The band hope to play music professionally in the future, Dan said, “We’d really like to play at Glastonbury, go on tour and record our album.”

The Sunnies recently released a new single, Veridity, that can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
