HOLT Sports & Recreation Committee (HRSC) completed their 24-hour tennis marathon, raising money for Parkinson’s UK.
Members and non-members took to the courts from noon on Friday 21st June to noon on Saturday 22nd June to complete the ‘Holt Moon Tennis’ event. Online they have managed to raise £2,045 with more donations flooding in, as well as cash donations, to reach their target.
The group set themselves a target of £3,000 for Parkinson’s UK, the national charity that offers information and support to people affected by the disease. The charity also funds research into new and better treatments for Parkinson’s.
Chair of HSRC, Gill Andrew said, “I am positive that we will reach the target, people have been so generous with their donations. Over 50 people took part in the event including Holt Primary School children, St Katherine’s Sky One team, friends and neighbours who created ‘the walk’ team in memory of their friend Lucinda who passed away from Parkinson’s last year, as well as staff from Harris, Hill and Gibbons vets and even the village vicar!
“It was a great event, really good weather, that brought together the community to raise money for such a good cause. There was great camaraderie on the court.
“During the last hour, we tried to fit as many players on the courts as possible and played ‘around the world’ which was fun.
“On the Friday night, as the weather was so good, we had a pop-up bar that brought supporters along to cheer on the players, with all money donated to Parkinson’s.
“As chair, I want to give big thanks to Joyce Alcock who organised the scheduling for the event, all the players who took the time to join us, all the supporters who came down to keep the teams going and all of the HRSC committee members for organising.”
