AN 83-year old man from Melksham has had his head shaved to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.
John Bright who suffers from Parkinson’s had the chop in front of a crowd of people as he had half his head shaved at Sainsbury’s before going to Asda to have the other half shaved. Graham Griffiths who owns Griff’s Barber Shop in Avon Place had the honour of completing the head shave.
John said, “I really wanted to do something to raise money for a great cause. I have had Parkinson’s for 17 years so I know what it is like and I thought a head shave would be a good way of showing my support.
“I didn’t have a fundraising target but I am really pleased with the support I received from everyone on the day. I would like to thank Griff for agreeing to do it, he is fantastic and I appreciate it.”
Graham Griffiths said, “I can definitely say I have never been asked to shave an 83-year-old’s head for charity so it is definitely a first, but well done him for doing something to raise money for a good cause.
“I have a sponsorship form and collection point in my barber shop so I welcome anyone to still come in and make a donation.”
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that causes movement to be slower. One person in every 500 has Parkinson’s, that’s about 127,000 people in the UK and there is no cure.
