Melksham Town donate £1,564 to the Teenage Cancer Trust

MELKSHAM Town Football Club has presented a cheque for £1,564 to the Teenage Cancer Trust after raising the money at the Manchester United legends game last month.

The club chose to raise money for the charity after hearing about the support given to Beanacre local, Holly King and her family, when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

With Holly now in remission since receiving a stem-cell transplant last year in December, she and her family have continued to promote and support the charity.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Teenage Cancer Trust was Holly’s mother, Terry King, who also helped to raise the money on the day by shaking buckets and collecting donations. “It’s a fantastic amount of money and it’s wonderful that the club has done this,” said Terry. “We were delighted when Darren told us that the club wanted to make the Man Utd legends visit a fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust. He knew what we’d been through with Holly and what a great support the charity has been to us.

“Now, with the money raised, more young people with a cancer diagnosis and their families can be reached and not have to face it alone.

“Darren has also said that the club will continue to support the Teenage Cancer Trust with events until May next year. So, along with the ongoing fundraising we ourselves  are participating in, we hope to make a big difference.”

Melksham Town FC chair Darren Perrin added, “This charity is something that is very close to the club because of Holly’s experience. We are delighted to be able to help in our small way.”

Money was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust with an auction packed full of great prizes and 25% of ticket sale profits being donated to the cause.
