MELKSHAM Almshouses Charities is still looking for someone in the local area to rent one of the 19th-century almshouses in Bath Road, which has been vacant since January.
The property is one of five that is managed by the charity that were refurbished in 2013.
The almshouses were built in 1862 by Quaker and philanthropist Rachel Fowler, with the intention to provide homes for people in need. The homes were left to the parish after her death to continue the work that she had started.
The accommodation, comprising of a lounge, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and ensuite toilet, is available for one individual over the age of 50 years who is in need and has financial hardship. The resident will be responsible for a weekly payment, currently £100 and the payment of council tax, electricity and contents insurance.
Any applicant should currently be living in districts administered by Melksham Town Council or Melksham Without Parish Council. Applications should be made to the secretary, Russell Lewis, by Thursday 31st May on 01380 830372 or email Russell.lewis7@btinternet. com
