LOCAL fundraising group the Bowerhill Barkers, has set a fundraising target of £55,000 – the lifetime cost of a guide dog – to enable them to name and sponsor a guide dog.
To reach their ambitious target, the group has planned a packed calendar of events over the coming months. A big fundraiser has been organised for November, along with making appearances around the town collecting money outside shops and visiting local pubs and cafes.
The group is appealing to local businesses for further help on their quest to name and sponsor a guide dog. Group member Caroline Fielding said, “We are hoping local businesses could help us by donating things to our fundraisers, allowing us to fundraise outside their premises, offering to print leaflets and distribute them, or by simply donating.
“We are having another big fundraiser at Bowerhill Village Hall on Saturday 17th November and will need raffle prizes, auction prizes and tombola prizes.
“All our group’s fundraising money goes towards the Guide Dog’s Name a Puppy scheme. When we reach £55,000, we will then be able to name our own puppy. When this happens, or just before, we will have a community event for local people to name the pup.”
Since their first fundraising event in May this year, the group has raised over £3,000 for Guide Dogs Southampton.
This Saturday, 18th August, the Bowerhill Barkers will be visiting The Plough in Bradford-on-Avon from 7pm; and next week on Saturday 25th August, the group and a number of guide dogs will be at Asda in Melksham from 10am to 4pm. The following day, Sunday 26th August, the group will be at the Rising Sun in Lacock from 7pm.
