Rivermead Primary School in Melksham has just received the UNICEF bronze award for committing to respect children’s human rights!
Local MP, Michelle Donelan, visited Rivermead school to meet and congratulate staff and pupils on winning the award from the UN children’s agency. Rivermead primary has committed to embed children’s human rights in their ethos and culture, including equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. According to UNICEF, participating schools have reported positive impact on relationships and wellbeing, leading to better learning and behaviour, improved academic standards and less bullying.
UNICEF is the United Nations agency responsible for children. Around the world it promotes high standards of education, nutrition, children’s human rights and health including vaccination programmes.
Michelle Donelan MP said, “Congratulations to Rivermead’s staff and pupils – the UNICEF children’s rights scheme is an excellent way of promoting and teaching about the rights of children.”
