OVER a year since it closed, there are still no plans for the former Christie Miller Sports Centre in Bowerhill.
The centre closed in October last year after Wiltshire Council decided it would not spend the £1million needed to make the building safe for use.
Shortly after its closure, Wiltshire Council was encouraged by local councillors to decide quickly what should be done with the site, suggesting that it be used as much-needed employment land.
In response, Wiltshire Council said in November last year that it was ‘considering options’, but a year on, plans are no further forward.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council told Melksham News, “We are in the process of relocating the service currently operating from the site to a new facility in Westbury (the Wilts & Swindon Learning Resources team are currently based in the old depot half of the Christie Miller site)
“Once fully vacant, the council will consider the options for the site to provide the best outcome to deliver business need.
“A range of uses will be considered – from possible redevelopment for council purposes, to disposal of the site on the open market.”
