The former Lloyds Bank building in the town centre is up for sale by auction with a guide price of £500,000.
The Grade II listed building on the High Street, which is more than 100 years old, has been vacant since the closure of the town’s last bank in February 2022.
In 2023, Wiltshire Council granted planning permission to convert the building into seven self-contained flats comprising a mix of one and two-bedroom units.
The auction is due to take place on 17th June through Hollis Morgan.
The freehold town centre building provides approximately 5,913 square feet of space arranged over two floors with a large basement. The sale also includes five off-street parking spaces.
The agent says there is potential for further development of the attic space and use of the basement for ancillary storage.
Following the closure of the bank, there were calls for the building to become a banking hub offering services from multiple banks. Former MP Michelle Donelan spearheaded the campaign, but Melksham was not eligible because building society services remained available in the town.
