Men across Melksham are being invited to join a free community walk and evening of talks aimed at raising awareness of men’s mental health and wellbeing.
Step Forward will take place on Wednesday 23rd September from 6.30pm to 8.30pm as part of Melksham’s Sham Jam Festival.
The 5km walk will start at Melksham Assembly Hall, pass through the town and finish at King George V Playing Field for free food and a series of ‘inspiring’ talks.
Participants will hear from guest speakers Andy MacKenzie, founder of Dare to Become, and Ryan Hartley, creator of Always Better Than Yesterday. Through their work and personal experiences, both speakers encourage men to embrace vulnerability, build resilience and take positive steps towards better mental health.
A spokesperson for Melksham Town Council said, “While conversations around mental health are becoming more common, many men still find it difficult to talk openly about their experiences. Step Forward aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment where men can connect with others, hear inspiring stories and be reminded that support is available when it is needed.”
Mayor of Melksham, Councillor Saffi Rabey, said, “Men’s mental health is something that touches so many lives, whether it’s a family member, friend, colleague or neighbour. Too often, men feel they have to struggle on their own rather than ask for help. Step Forward is all about bringing people together, starting conversations and showing that nobody has to face things alone. I’m really pleased to be supporting this event through my chosen charity, Man Down, and I’d encourage anyone who can to get involved and show their support.”
Step Forward is free to attend and open to all men aged 18 and over.
