More volunteers are being sought to help tackle food waste and support a community food project in Melksham.
Melksham Community Larder was set up more than four years ago in response to food waste and has since developed into a local community project.
A team of volunteers collects surplus food from local supermarkets and redistributes it through the larder’s shop at the Round House in Melksham, where the food is given away.
The larder is looking for more volunteer drivers to collect surplus food from supermarkets. Regular drivers are needed, as well as people who can help occasionally, including to provide holiday cover.
Additional volunteers are also needed to help in the shop, including people who can cover occasional absences or commit to a regular shift.
Adrienne Westbrook, from Melksham Community Larder, said, “Whether you enjoy being out and about, meeting people or simply want to make better use of your spare time, volunteering at the larder offers a chance to get involved in something worthwhile.
“It’s an opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, make new friends, learn new skills and become part of a team working towards a shared goal. And knowing that your time is helping reduce food waste and support the local community can be rewarding in itself.
“You don’t need to make a huge commitment to get involved. Even offering a little of your time can help the larder continue its work and make a real difference.”
