VILLAGERS in Shaw and Whitley have launched a community action group in a bid to improve the quality of life for residents.
SWAG, which stands for Shaw & Whitley Action Group held a launch evening earlier this month at Whitley Methodist Church and it was a success after a good turnout supported the event.
The evening was used to explore the possibility of SWAG being set up with it running in a similar fashion to that of other action groups in neighbouring villages. Mike Mills from Bowerhill Residents Action Group (BRAG) and Richard Wood from Berryfield and Semington Residents Action Group (BASRAG) talked to the audience about how their groups run and the lessons that can be learnt.
As well as guest speakers, many local residents attended including good representation from flood wardens, community speed watch members and play area representatives.
Following the launch success, the next meeting of SWAG will take place on Thursday 26th February, 7pm at Whitley Methodist Church where a committee will also be formed. All welcome.
