Wiltshire Council ‘still committed to campus’ – despite delay

Updates on the campus, railway station, and local grants were announced at Melksham Area Board on Wednesday 15th April at Semington Village Hall.

Wiltshire Council associate director, Laurie Bell, made it clear that despite the change in programme, the commitment and budget for a campus in Melksham remains the same. The campus name (Melksham Community Campus) and logo were agreed following a short consultation and public vote.

Paul Johnson, chair of the TransWilts Community Interest Company (CIC) highlighted that the increased usage at Melksham Railway Station has meant the three-year target was comprehensively achieved within 12 months. One of the key targets for the Trans Wilts CiC is now to target the station’s access and infrastructure, with the Foundry Close pedestrian and cycling route a key priority.

The following grants were award by the area board:

• £2,500 to Friends of St George’s School for a new community adventure trail path.

• £1,954 to Melksham CAP for a mobile water bowser and a joystick to maximise the effectiveness of the CCTV.

• £3,514 to Bulkington Village Hall for floor repairs and damp proofing.

• £1,584 for electrical equipment for Melksham’s Party in the Park.

• £1,000 to The Learning Curve for IT equipment for introductory internet courses.

• £984 to Wiltshire Mind for a new intercom system.

• £2,500 to Melksham Adventure Centre for an improved drainage system.

• £500 to Melksham Seniors’ Forum for older persons’ activity equipment.

The next Melksham Area Board will be on Wednesday 17 June at Melksham Assembly Hall.
