A local artist who rediscovered his passion for art after 12 years as a full-time unpaid carer will have his work featured in this year’s Pound Arts Open Exhibition in Corsham.
David Walker will exhibit his piece titled Butterfly Group, a three-part resin-based artwork featuring sequins, acrylic pouring paint, and glitter, each part mounted on a log base.
He rediscovered his interest in art following 12 years full-time unpaid caring for his wife Georgina, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
As part of his journey to getting back into the community after Georgina passed away in 2021, David attended a series of Creative Conversations art-based sessions run by Celebrating Age Wiltshire aimed at residents over 65 who wanted a non-demanding and creative opportunity to break out of social isolation.
The art-based sessions were facilitated by professional artists and covered a variety of themes including the countryside and the seashore.

Last year, David opened his garden as a gallery space in Melksham Gardens Competition, which included a selection of his artwork around the garden.
The 16th Annual Pound Arts Open Exhibition 2025 opening event will run on Thursday 24th July, from 6.30pm to 8pm. The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday July 25th to Saturday 23rd August.
