The vital role that young carers in Melksham play in our community is to be recognised with a day of exciting activities and Melksham Campus.
The carers, aged five to 18, will have a chance to participate in a range of activities including swimming, circus skills, multisports (basketball, uni-hoc and ball dog) and activities run by Melksham library.
The event is on Saturday December 3rd, 11am to 3pm at Melksham Community Campus and is being organised by Melksham Area Board, working with Youth Action Wiltshire and Carers Support.
Dawn Whiting from Wiltshire Young Carers Service, which is a service provided by Youth Action Wiltshire, said, “ We are really grateful to Melksham Area Board for prioritising young carers and facilitating a day for them which will not only provide respite from their caring role, but also enable them to access this wonderful, brand new campus facility.
“We will make sure that everyone present has a great time and thoroughly enjoys this opportunity.”
Wiltshire Young Carers Service currently holds 916 open young carer cases across Wiltshire; they provide support planning, coaching, mentoring and respite activities for young people with a significant caring role, aged 5-18 years.
They said, “We are excited to be hosting a young carers event in Melksham, in partnership with Melksham Area Board. This event will provide fun activities for registered young carers aged 5 to 18 who live in the town. The event will provide opportunities for young carers to use the swimming pool, library and sports facilities.”
