THE children of Melksham had cause to celebrate last week as a brand new water-themed play area was opened in King George V park.
Before Mayor, cllr Adrienne Westbrook, could officially open the park, the children of Melksham poured into the brand new play area.
“I am delighted that the new toddler play area is open and ready for little visitors,” said cllr Westbrook. “There was no time for an official opening as the children were so eager to get in as soon as the safety fencing was removed.
“Who were we to stop them?” she laughed.
Closed by Wiltshire Council last year as it was deemed not fit for purpose, the town council voted in early June to redevelop the paddling pool, creating a facility that would be available all year round for the youngsters of Melksham. With the decision made in early July to proceed with a water-themed play area for children aged 1-3 years-old, work began in earnest on 17th July.
Cllr Westbrook said, “The town council has spent £20,000 refurbishing this area, bringing a new lease of life to our park.”
