MELKSHAM Area Board awarded a grant to the Shaw and Whitley Community Emergency Group, at their meeting this month.
The grant for £321 will be used to help purchase walkie talkies for use in emergencies.
The group’s application said, “The Community Emergency Group has existed for over four years and we have an active group of about 25 volunteers.
“We have been advised that walkie talkies would be beneficial in the event of an emergency. The Reading Rooms Whitley is our control room. The walkie talkies will enable volunteers to communicate with the control room in an emergency situation i.e. flooding, ice, snow etc. Currently volunteers use their own mobile phones which is very restrictive.”
