THE 2020 programme for Atworth Camera Club began on Monday 27th January, when the club was able to use their newly-installed projector and big screen.
The club reports, “Jim Marsden continued his illustrated talk on “Looking for Pictures” that he started in October, with some portraits taken at events where people were happy to pose for pictures. The largest was at the Venice Carnival, but others were at more accessible locations in the UK.
“For people who like the countryside, there were pictures of woods and trees and for those still looking for inspiration, the option of searching your files with a view to “creating” more pictures was offered. A number of creative examples were shown. The hope was that members would be challenged to go out “Looking for Pictures”.
“For our new season’s project, “Architecture”, Derek Mason showed a varied collection of images, starting with a church near Tinatagel, where the strong verticals of the church tower contrasted with the almost circular form of a field in front.
“This was followed by images of Wells Cathedral Close, Boscombe Pier (showing a sharp contrast between the almost monochrome effect on the left with the brightly coloured sea, sky and clouds to the right), a canal cruiser in Amsterdam, the oddly proportioned Chapel in Royal Victoria Country Park, as seen from Southampton Water, the former red light district of Haarlem in the Netherlands, the brightly coloured strong verticals of the organ inside Haarlem Church, the manmade cascade at Bowood, Wellington Bottom, two different views of Atworth Clock Tower, the first from black and white film using a 4-stop red filter to emphasise the brickwork and strong verticals, the second with a digital camera to illustrate the difference, and finishing with a series of Knowlton Church and the surrounding earthworks.
“Clive Greenland will be telling us how to “Plan, Photograph, Process and Print” at our next meeting on Monday 24th February, followed by Alan Lee showing a selection of hopefully interesting pictures. The provisional programme for the following two months is:
“March 30th – A Studio Evening using continuous lighting – Derek Mason
“April 27th – Evelyn Stewart will show some of her pictures followed by members’ pictures of “Architecture.”
“The club does not have any formal membership and meetings are open to all with a monthly fee of just £2, including refreshments. The meetings are held on the last Monday of each month in Atworth Village Hall at 7.30pm.”
