THE Atworth Open Gardens afternoon takes place next month on Sunday 9th June, when the community will show off its finest displays of flora and fauna.
The event will run from 1pm to 6pm and also includes cream teas and refreshments in the Village Hall on Bath Road.
Organisers say, “If the sun comes out, what better way to spend an afternoon? If it’s rainy, be sure that these lovely gardens will brighten up your day; just bring an umbrella!”
Tickets cost £5 per adult and accompanied children under 16 years old are free.
There is parking available at Atworth Business Park, which is near the roundabout on Bath Road. SN12 8SB.
Proceeds will go towards urgent repairs to the roof and timbers of St. Michael’s Church tower, which was part of the church rebuilt in 1451, and is the oldest building in the village.
The tower houses three bells. The treble bell, although cracked, is believed to be the oldest bell in Wiltshire. It is dated 1350 and is inscribed Ave Maria. The tenor bell is dated 1606 and is inscribed Gloria in Excelsis Deo. The third bell was cast in 1706.
