ATWORTH Youth Club is facing permanent closure as early as the end of the month if they can’t find a session leader and a chair person.
The youth club has already been forced to close its doors temporarily due to the Charities Commission policy stating that a chairperson and leader is a requirement. If the right people can’t be found the club will be forced to stay closed for good.
The decision to close was made by the committee at a recent AGM.
Secretary of Atworth Youth Club Rachel Carver said, “The outgoing committee had to make the decision for two reasons.
“Firstly, we have been unable to recruit a new session leader. This person must have safeguarding and First Aid qualifications, which the parent helpers alone, do not have.
“Secondly, we have not been able to elect a chairperson as no persons have come forward. If we do not have the minimum quorum of people required, as set out by the charities commission, we cannot continue to run.
“The few parents that did attend the AGM are committed to try and make one final effort to resolve these issues, and to secure the future of the youth club, so it can reopen.
A further meeting will be held by the committee on Thursday 26th March at 7.30pm in the youth club building. Anybody who thinks they can help is urged to go along.
• The post of session leader is a paid position, applicants must be over 18 and First Aid and safeguarding qualifications are desirable but not essential as training can be given. For more information email rlcarver1@aol.com
