Members of Avon Bowls Club eagerly anticipate the opening of the Season on Saturday, 15th April when two teams will compete for the privilege of winning the first outdoor match of 2017.
A hugely important year lies ahead for the club, culminating in Dawn Edwards, Chairman, being installed in November as President of Wiltshire Ladies’ Bowls, a great honour of which the club is duly proud.
Pauline Baker said, “Everyone is delighted for Dawn who has worked hard over many years encouraging people of all ages and walks of life to take up what is an extremely enjoyable, if somewhat challenging game. Members offer her congratulations and good wishes for a highly successful term of office.
“Meanwhile, Tuesday ‘roll-up’ evenings begin on 18th April at 6pm and members find these a pleasant way to meet friends, have some refreshments and play bowls in a non-competitive atmosphere.
“The club has booked a stand at the Assembly Hall on Saturday 22nd April from 11am – 3pm for the Community Day. Club members will be available to talk to the public and hopefully persuade people to ‘have a go’ at our Open Evening on Tuesday 16th May from 6pm.
Bring yourselves and your flat-soled shoes on 16th May and we will do the rest. Club members will delighted to welcome you, together with fully-qualified coaches who will introduce you (very gently) to the art of Lawn Green Bowls. Refreshments will be available, and we are sure you will enjoy the evening.
“Prior to the event, the Tourist Information Centre in Church Street will display Bowls equipment and information about the Avon in the window.
“Members of the public are always welcome to come and watch matches taking place on the Green throughout the season, mostly in the evenings, but with quite a few in the afternoon.”
