AVON Bowls Club is proud to announce that club chair, Dawn Edwards, will become Bowls Wiltshire Ladies County President in November this year.
“We are delighted that she has been given this well-deserved honour, as there can be few others in the area who have worked so hard to promote the game of lawn bowls than Dawn,” said Pauline Baker, the club’s publicity officer.
“While President, Dawn will be expected to travel round the county and beyond representing the County Bowls Association, and the club has decided to help with the finances which will inevitably be involved by raising funds to help her carry out her duties as efficiently as she wishes to do.
“With this in mind, the club has come up with various fund-raising ideas, the first one of which takes place on Tuesday 13th June and will be a ‘Krafty Kitchen Sale’, where buyers will be able to purchase a selection of nearly new utensils, books, handicrafts at prices that will astound customers.
“The event is at the Avon Bowls Club in the grounds of Melksham House from 2pm. Refreshments will be on sale and to add to the enjoyment, there will be a ladies’ friendly match taking place which visitors will be able to enjoy watching.
“Also, as the club always holds a bowling roll-up session every Tuesday evening, visitors can take the opportunity of ‘having a go’ at something which has in the past been described as ‘an old man’s game’. Just bring a pair of flat-soled shoes, and the club will do the rest. You may surprise yourself at how much you enjoy it. The sale will continue until everything has been sold plus a chance to bowl, so in other words, ‘Two ‘till Late’!
“Should the weather be inclement, the sale will still take place, but the bowling opportunity may have to be postponed, so don’t let a drop of rain deter you from coming along. Members will be on hand to both sell the goods on offer, and help you understand the wonderful game of bowls, as well as serving refreshments.
“Remember the date, Tuesday, 13th June from 2pm and we look forward to welcoming you to the club.”
