Aloeric Primary School has been awarded the bronze level Wiltshire Healthy School award. This achievement has involved the children engaging in different healthy activities and recording this within a self-assessment audit.
The Wiltshire Healthy Schools audit enables schools to provide evidence showing that they are meeting criteria under the headings of ‘The whole school approach’, ‘Personal, social, and health education’, ‘Healthy weight’ (incorporating healthy eating and physical activity) and ‘Emotional wellbeing and mental health.’
Some of the highlights that contributed toward the award were the increased cycling participation during ‘The Big Pedal’ fortnight (over 150 children rode to school on the ‘smoothie for riding your bike to school’ day). Inter-house sporting competitions, setting a ‘Walking Bus’ to increase walking to school, The Big Pledge (a Wiltshire Council initiative) that encouraged children to increase physical activity, Bikeability/scooter training (learning skills in staying safe on the road), having specialist staff to support children with mental health issues and Physical Education lessons that support children who are disadvantaged.
